Problem
Existing platforms make listing slow and pickup coordination unclear, so usable furniture ends up thrown away. The cost of giving an item a second life is higher than the cost of discarding it.
Process
- User interviews with people who had recently listed or collected furniture
- Competitive analysis of Marketplace, DBA and local exchange groups
- Friction mapping across the listing and pickup journeys
- Low-fi flows → high-fidelity prototype iterated against test feedback
Solution
A focused flow that strips listing down to the minimum needed to make pickup work — clear item state, a structured pickup window, and an explicit hand-off step so neither side is left guessing.

Expected outcomes
- Lower abandonment during listing through fewer required fields
- Higher pickup completion via structured time windows
- More confident hand-offs through clearer status communication
Reflection
The hardest tradeoff was deciding how much trust to build into the product itself versus leaning on the existing neighborhood context — adding identity verification would raise trust but introduce the exact friction the project was trying to remove. In a next iteration I'd test a lightweight reputation signal tied to completed pickups before reaching for heavier verification.
